AJAX (by )

Now, AJAX is really pretty similar to Flash and Java and so on. As with all these technologies, the idea is that when you visit the web page, you get some HTML with some code embedded in it, and you interact with that code in your browser to navigate and do stuff; the code only talks back to the server to fetch information or to post back commands.

The difference is that AJAX doesn't need any plugins, since it simply uses Javascript to embed the code, and Dynamic HTML to display information.

There are ways of writing AJAX pages so the back and forward buttons still work - which is nice. But it's still hell for a screen reader. You still really need to write a "normal" site then an "AJAX" site and make sure you automatically get the "normal" one when Javascript is unavailable.
