VLAN woes (by )

I've done extensive tcpdumping, and found I can replicate the problem from Sarah's laptop (wifi to access point, cable into switch network, cable into server) and from my desktop machine (which is cabled into the same switch the server connects to); but I'm still at a loss as to what's wrong. The TCP connection just seems to go wrong somehow; in mid-stream, the client machine suddenly sends a FIN, and since the server is streaming a lot of data several data packets arrive before it stops, each of which is replied to with an RST.

I've taken parallel tcpdumps of the same instance of the problem from both client and server - tomorrow, I'll compare them and see if there's packets that appear at one end and not the other that might shed some light on it.

And I'll be interested to see if the problem goes away when I replace the vr interface with an fxp.

Is OpenBSD's pf in the mix? If so, you might want a line like

    scrub out on $if max-mss 1440

    or something.
