Kittens (by )

We have KITTENS!!!!!

Two little black and whites - called Hydrogen and Helium 🙂 Hydrogen has one black leg with a little white soc where as Helium has two white front legs 🙂 So they fit their names quiet well 🙂

Last night I ended up buried in kittens that after being stroked to carmthem down decided that my shoulder was the place to be 🙂

They are pouncing everything, including my hand I stupidly dangled!

They are 10 weeks old and were part of a litter of four - they are pretty inseperable so everyone was glade thaat we wanted both to keep each other company. Hydrogen instantly went for an explore when we got them home but Helium is shy and very scared of Jean who atempts to get the 'cuddles' and when denied this through her toys at them!

Things are starting to come together now 🙂 Now all we need isx a few more cats - some ducks and bees..... 🙂 🙂 🙂

Mr Toad of Suttons Mill (by )

A toad about 10cm in length was lerking on the step of the Mill so I cuaght it (gently in a well practiced have to relocate wildlife at Thirftwood in an ecologically sound manor) and then released it with the wiggly pets and camera. The photos arent as good as the shrew ones as a) it was dark so could not use the mode for lots of consecutive frames for animal and children photography and b) the thing hoped in the wrong direction - still the are passable photos 🙂

Now all I have to do is think up a sutiable storyline to go with the pics for the webcomic!

Good job I like wildlife living here 🙂

The Taming of the Shrew (by )

People were round for the Jazz on the Common and Dads Birthday this weekend. This ment my perants were in the Mill - cries of theirs a baby mouse in the Mill went up and my brother David as always spent the next day trying to catch it - to no avail. I was taking up a coffee for mum when the cutest little shrew ran basically over my foot (well the edge of my sandle anyway). Without really thinking I put the cup of coffee down on the floor and picked up the shrew - it obviously tried to escape so I ended up holding it by the tail - expecting to be bitten at any moment but lo! It just wiggle flipped itself and scampered up my arm and round the back of my neck.

Dad cuaght it from its position on my shoulder and I went to get something to keep it in till the time of release 🙂 I heared dad giggling only to find when I got back that it had escaped and gone up his arm to the armpit and was tickling him!

We got it in a wine glass and dad showed it to the others whilst I grabed the camera and some wiggly pets. I put the wiggly pets down on the drive and set the camera up then did a quick check that the wine glass was going to be in shot the got dad to release the shrew 🙂

I'll try and blog the picks later 🙂

The silly creature wouldnt get out of the glass which was really sweet 🙂 It ran off and hide in the grass at the edge of the drive though me and dad knew where it was exactly! Later I checked and it had moved but less than 1/2 hr later Al reported that he had almost trodden on the thing trying to make its way back into the Mill so he hurridly made sure all doors were closed (hmmm... I suspect that little shrew is back in its cozy little nest somewhere in the Mill! Though how it avoids Tim and Besty is anyones guess!)

The Duck Invasion! (by )

This morning I heard lots of noise outside - I thought oh no Tims caught some gosling or something and is torturing it (Tim being the cat), I went outside the door only to be flown at by an irrate mother duck. I screamed - she quacked.

I could still here loads of strange quacking next to me - I looked down to fine juvinile ducks around my feet in a panic, they then hastily retreated into the dead end of the coal store! Trapping themselves - I thought they were going to have heart attacks! They were trying to climb the coal sacks and just sliding back down them.

I put out some bread for the panic stricken mother waiting up on the grass verge and then 'hid' inside and took photos as they made their daring escape!

We are very happy becuase we thought the magpies and that had eaten all their eggs but obviously not 🙂

Poor Little Rabbit :'( (by )

Babara came calling for Al today but he was in London, she had a rabbit she had tried to kill herself as Tim (the cat) had broken its leg. It was in a bit of a state and I ended up holding it whilst she hit it witht he baseball bat - guess who got covered in blood 🙁

Poor thing - I concede it needed to be killed and that this was the quickest kindest way but I feel bad 🙁 I wouldnt have let Al do it if he had been here anyway due to his 'proper' vegitarianism. Of course if I'd found it with a broken leg like that I would have probably done the selfish thing and have in a box munching lettice at the mo hoping it just might recover.

It was such a lovely looking thing too and it was warm and soft 🙁 Still at least I know I'll never starve as I can do these things even if I hate them and will probably have nightmares over it! Also it didnt go to waste - Tim has since eaten most of it and if Babara hadnt found him playing with it he would have just worried it to death.
