Elephant Parade (by )

I have applied to paint an elephant!

Yep you heard me an elephant! Of the statue variety - think the multi-coloured cows that were around London or the Pigs that were in Bath.

They don't have many left and I only just scraped in on the deadline - so I probably wont get it but I had to try!

The elephants will be paraded in London to help awareness of the plight of the Asian elephant. You can find out more about the event here.

I love conservation stuff and again this is for me at least a cross over of science and art - so for my design I went for the whole ecology feel - so yeah you guessed it I plan to paint one of my seascapes 🙂 Well to me the epitamise a bio-community in balance and in danger - they are also basically one of the oldest habitates on earth!

One of the things that doing this application has taught me though is that I need to get some sort of portfolio site up and running :/

Angel Jean (by )

Angel Jean

Friday Jean came home with a letter saying her costume needed to be in school by Monday - I had obviously missed a letter somewhere a long the line and didn't even know what she was supposed to be. She informed me that she was an angel and that she had to have silver wings.

So one Sunday afternoon, gaffa tape, cardboard and a trip to tesco's for some tinsel and we had a pair of angel wings complete with a mechanism for attaching them to her without pain!

If I ever get around to writing this up the instructions and step by step photos will go on Salaric Craft. The angel dress was a rehash of last years snow cloud costume.

The Art of Knowledge Unconference (by )

This weekend 12-13 Dec 2009 in Bristol there is an Unconference part of the uncraftivism weekend and I am going to be reading some of my poems that I think appropriate! Like The Programmer's Lament and A Picture of Words.

Me and Alaric are hoping some of you will join us in Bristol 🙂

It looks like a really interesting event so I'm looking forward to it - lots!

BKU2009 on twitter and I think there's some online jabbery stuff occuring. There is also like a talk/culture cafe thing and a lot of free form stuff hence the Un- bit of conference!

Tom and Blanket Farm (by )

For her birthday Jean got a blanket that is part of a series of stories I've written for her called Blanket Farm. A friend knitted the main blanket and then I have been adding all the 'picture' bits too it - now I didn't get a chance to finish it completely before Jean's birthday but gave it too her anyway.

Yesturday I stole it back to do some more work on it - like filling in the cottage which is just an outline currently and stuff like that! But I put it down and when I turned round Tom was on it! And every time I've looked at the thing its had either a cat or child in or on it and I even used it for my nap this afternoon! It's the popular blanket we've ever had - I'm a bit perplexed as to how I'm going to get round to finishing it off!

The Little Book of Spoogy Poetry (by )

The Little Book of Spoogy Poetry

I've been quiet sick this week again - as in I've had several days where I couldn't function at all - today I'm a bit better though still having dizzy spells and being very very tired but I decided to create for Jean The Little Book of Spoogy Poetry.

Spoogy is the word she tends to say instead of spooky and she really likes Halloreen stuff and kept asking for stories and rhymes - so this morning I wrote the first half of a story I hope to have finished for Saturday for her it's called Hetty Peglar's Tump after a local earthworks.

Anyway I realised I wasn't going to get a chance to illistrate the story for her before then and I really wanted to do some halloween drawings for her so I thought I'd do a poetry book instead.

No I wrote all the poems today and I junked about 1 and half times what I've put in and they are well... mostly rhyming and Jean specific so I ain't going to win no great prizes with them but Jean seems to like them.

I'll be putting the poems on Turquoise Monster and how I made the book on Salaric Carft. But until then here are a few of the pages with the pictures pre-binding.
