T H Huxley (by )

Dear fellow geologist,

I have found a thing of exquisite beauty in the Oxfam book shop in Stroud yesturday. I couldnt believe my eyes when I saw it - I spent a whole 12 quid on it so I expect you all to ogle it and go ooooooo lots!

TH huxley

Isn't it just the best? Notice the date if you will on this next photo!

1895!

1895!!!!!!! Wow - not only is it one of our oldest books but just wow! I found it becuase I was looking for a presant for Al who collects old technical and scienific books.

For us RSM peeps T H Huxley is very very improtant 🙂

I am horrified at the wikipedia artical on the guy - yo geologists that are better than me - go and put our history into the artical please!

I would give a link telling people about T H Huxley and stuff to do with the Huxley school, the RSM and Imperial college but I cant find a decent write up or the pages dont work - why am I not suprised? If a peeps knows of anything good I could link to let me know?

Thanks

Oh and isnt the book lovely - for those who cant read the title on the book its Science and Education Essays by T. H. Huxley its volum III though so now I suppose I have to hunt the others down to make a nice set!

Sarah is very happy - geology love and old book love combined in one precoius bundle - sarah skips away into the sunset to read - woundering vaguely if it should be done with rubber gloves on? Hmmm.... maybe I should get Al to do more reading of old books.

Well We Survived! (by )

We survived - no fatalities or anything! And we let ten yr olds loose with screw drivers!

I was right about the photo thing - I took photos but have to wait and see if the perants will sign the forms so I can use them.

Al was fantastic with the kids - and he looks soooooo cute in the uniform 🙂

His cubs are all obsessed with dinosuars!

My Beavers are obsessed with Bob and blowing things up!

The Scouts - all four of them are really really scarily enthusiastic and one of them appears to be Harry Potter!?! But they made the rocket luancher and had a great time jumping on the bottle to launch the rockets - the girls team won of course! So inorder to stop the war of the sexes from properlly braking out the teams where splite for the next game.

We are tired now - Bobble also appears to have picked up a tummy bug this week as we had more vomit today - only once we got back though thank god. This resulted in us washing her, the baby gym and her road map rug 🙁 We still have alot of tidying to do - the furniture which was rearranged for the carpet shampooing hasnt yet gone back into place - SIGH.

Anyway it was fun- even if one of the leader people said that girls couldnt read maps and use compasses - and it was a she - I said yes they can - eeek now I have to teach them erm I can do triangulation does that count?

The Nerves have set in (by )

EEEEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tonights going to be our first meeting - Beavers, Cubs and Scouts!

But we're not nervous oh no - not one little bit! Its not like I've bitten all my nials off or anything. Still I'm sort of excited too 🙂

The itinary for tonight is something along the lines of :

Colouring in and games for beavers - possible making a little beaver each for them. Not sure about cubs as thats Als domain. Then for Scouts we are making a rocket launcher - unfortunatly we are not allowed to use any explosives!

Bit bit nails - Argh!!!!!

Still I get a cute mascout - I have named it Bob - as all things are want to be named 🙂

bob

I may or may not take piccies tonight - I think there might be some horrible regulation that says I need written permission from the perants or something like that :-/

I was mean to Minni :( (by )

We were on the landing and Minni was sitting next to the changing table which due to showers etc... was not on the bath. Jean used said changing table to stand up and walk over to our little black shadow. Things were going well with Jean making her sudo cat word noises - then Jean tried to stroke/poke/hit Minni, there was a hiss and a snapping of jaws and a crying baby and me acting on mothers instict chasing the cat away!

Poor Minni hadnt even biten Jean but the sudden agressiveness of the cat had been enough to frighten Jean whom the kittens willingly take cuddles from. But I didnt stop to think my instincts told me - something attacking baby - MUST PROTECT.

I feel bad as Minni is so highly strung as it is and nervous - we normal make sure Jean doesnt scare her but didnt realise the furry feline was sitting there.

Still I think I am forgiven for ousting the kittens who are Minnis arch emimies!
